Krillion privacy & saves
The Krillion keeps your progress on your own device. There is no account and nothing to sign up for.
This page explains what the game stores, where it stores it, and what that means in practice when you change device, clear your browser or share a result.
What the Krillion game saves, and where
The game writes four kinds of data to your browser’s local storage:
- The dive in progress for each day, including your answers and the deadline of the current prompt.
- Your history: the dives you have finished, with the answers and scores from each. Your personal best and your streak are worked out from this history.
- Your settings: sound, high-contrast mode, larger text and whether shared results include a link.
- A list of prompts you have already seen, kept as ID numbers.
This data stays in the browser. It is not sent to a server, so it does not follow you to another device or browser, and clearing site data removes it for good.
Why the timer is saved
The deadline of the prompt you are answering is stored as a fixed moment in time. That is why reloading the page mid-prompt does not give you a fresh 25 seconds: the game reads the saved deadline and carries on from there.
How your answers are checked
Answers are checked inside your browser. The day’s question pack is downloaded when you start a dive, and what you type is compared against it on your device. The text you type is not uploaded.
What The Krillion does not collect
- No accounts, sign-in or email collection.
- No advertising.
- No cookies set by the game itself.
- No leaderboard, so no score is submitted anywhere.
Visit statistics
To learn how many people visit and which pages they read, the site uses Plausible Analytics, a privacy-friendly tool that sets no cookies and does not follow you across sites, and Google Analytics, which measures traffic and may set cookies. These tools see page views, your approximate location, browser and device type. They never see your answers, scores or saved history, which stay in your browser. You can switch them off with a content blocker or your browser’s Do Not Track and tracking-protection settings.
Managing your Krillion saves
Playing on more than one device
Because nothing is uploaded, each browser keeps its own history. A dive finished on your phone will not appear on your computer, and the same day can be played separately in each. Streaks and personal bests are per browser for the same reason.
Private windows and blocked storage
In a private or incognito window, saved data usually disappears when the window closes. If browser storage is blocked entirely, the game still runs, but progress will not survive a reload.
Deleting your data
To erase everything the game has saved, clear the site data for thekrillion.com in your browser’s settings. There is no copy anywhere else to remove. This also resets your history and streak, and it cannot be undone.
Server logs
Like any website, the servers and network that deliver these pages receive standard request information such as IP address and browser type, and may keep it in short-lived logs for security and reliability. Those logs are not linked to your game history, which never leaves your browser.
Sharing
Copying or sharing a result only happens when you press the button. The report contains your score, depth and one symbol per prompt, never the answers you typed. If the “include link when sharing” setting is on, the report ends with a link to that day’s dive; switch it off in the menu to share the text alone.
The score card image is drawn in your browser and saved straight to your device. What happens to a report or an image after you send it is up to the app you share it with.
Links to other sites
The game links to Krillion.io, the original game that inspired this tribute. It is a separate site with its own practices. See about The Krillion for how the two relate.
