How to play Krillion

To play Krillion you answer seven prompts, one answer each, with twenty-five seconds per prompt. Here is everything a first Krillion daily dive involves.

How a Krillion daily dive works

A dive is one run through the day’s seven prompts. A prompt is a short category, and any answer that belongs to it can score. You are not hunting for a single correct answer; you are choosing which of many valid answers to give. The less often people would think of your choice, the more it is worth.

  1. Start the dive. Press the begin button on the home screen. Everyone gets the same seven prompts for the day.
  2. Read the prompt. A two-second countdown lets you take it in before the clock starts.
  3. Type one answer that fits and press Enter, or use the submit button. You have 25 seconds.
  4. See where it lands. The answer is placed in a rarity tier, scored from 10 to 100 points, and your dive sinks ten meters for every point.
  5. Dive on. Press the button to move to the next prompt. There is no clock on the landing screen, so you can read the result at your own pace.
  6. Finish all seven to see your dive log, total depth and a result you can share.

The 25-second timer

Each prompt has its own 25-second deadline, shown as a ring that drains and changes colour near the end. The deadline is fixed the moment the prompt opens, so reloading the page or opening the menu does not pause it or add time. If the clock runs out while you have something typed, that text is submitted for you.

Rejected answers, passes and timeouts

If an answer is not in the prompt’s answer bank, the input shakes and nothing is lost: try a different answer or another spelling while time remains. Passing a prompt, or running out of time with no accepted answer, scores zero for that prompt and the dive moves on. A zero does not end the dive. You always play all seven prompts.

How answers are matched

You do not need to type an answer perfectly. Capital letters, accents and punctuation are ignored, and so are the words “a”, “an” and “the”. An ampersand counts as “and”, and a simple plural usually matches its singular. What does matter is the name itself: a nickname or an abbreviation only works if the answer bank lists it.

Reading the Krillion game screen

The bar at the top shows your current depth, your score and seven dots, one per prompt. Each dot takes the colour of the tier you landed in. On the right edge a ruler scrolls as you descend, and the line at the bottom names the ocean zone you have reached, from the sunlight zone at the surface to the hadal zone below 6,000 meters.

The krill swimming beside the game follows your dive downward. It reacts if you click it, and it turns gold for a moment when you land the rarest tier.

After the dive: results and sharing

The results screen shows your total out of 700, the depth you reached, how many answers were worth 60 points or more, and your personal best. A chart places each of your seven answers at its depth. Below it you can open your own answers and the full answer sheet, which lists every accepted answer for each prompt and what it was worth.

You can copy a text report, use your device’s share menu where the browser supports it, or save a score card image. The report shows your score, your depth and one symbol per prompt. It never includes the answers you typed, so sharing does not spoil the day for anyone else.

New Krillion daily sets and past dives

A new set of prompts opens at midnight in New York (Eastern Time). The start screen shows that moment in your own time zone, with a countdown. Finish dives on consecutive days and the start screen shows your streak.

Days that have closed are listed in the archive, which you open from the menu. A past day you never played can still be played there. A day you already finished can be reviewed or replayed as practice, and a practice run does not replace your recorded score.

Krillion game settings

The menu has switches for sound, a high-contrast palette, larger game text and whether a shared result includes a link. Settings are saved in your browser, and the sound button in the top bar mutes the game at any time. To learn how answers are valued, read Krillion scoring & tiers.
